Tomorrow and Friday, the Cameron-Brooks team and Candidates will travel to Chicago, IL to kick off our fourth JMO Career Conference of 2018! As we get into the latter half of the year, we continue to see demand in the market for top performing leaders and JMOs. Recently, when I was speaking to several of the candidates coming to the Conference, I asked them what they were looking forward to the most about the Conference. Many cited the ability to interview with so many opportunities at one time, the opportunity to network with other JMOs who are transitioning, the chance to see all of their hard work in their preparation finally come to fruition, etc. All of those are great and all are true. I would also submit another very substantial benefit of the Career Conference is learning how to evaluate a developmental opportunity.
Those reading this blog post may have already been hit up by a friend or family member discussing a company they work for, or someone offering to get their resume in front of an HR person, or a job they found on Indeed, Monster, etc. But how do you know if that is the right one for you? Or even for a JMO, period? Is it truly developmental? Within the company, how well is that particular business unit performing? Who will you be working for? Do they have a track record of hiring and developing JMOs? And so on and so on…
The companies attending a Cameron-Brooks Conference have all been vetted to ensure they are top performing companies, leaders in their industry, good fits with roles allowing JMOs to build on their military experience, etc. We drill down to a level of not just the business unit you are interviewing with, but the particular group/team you would go to work for, who the hiring manager is, and their background, etc. In other words, these are roles we have spent extensive time vetting on our candidates’ behalf. By getting the chance to interview with 10+ different companies at the same time that have been vetted the way Cameron-Brooks does, the candidates then develop the ability to apply the “right lens” to be able to evaluate and vet companies and opportunities; and this is a skill that will carry forward with them long into their business careers.
We have a great lineup of companies and opportunities awaiting the August Career Conference Candidates and expect the average number of interviews to be 12+ per Candidate! Here is a quick sampling of what we have in store for the August Candidates:
