Off to the Races: Nov ’24 Conference Review
Welcome back! We are excited to announce that we just wrapped up our November 2024 Career Conference. First, a huge congratulations to all the Officers who attended and have taken the first steps towards launching their business careers! They are now off to the races and into the “follow-up process.”
The follow-up process consists of a mix of virtual and in-person interviews with companies where there was mutual interest in moving forward in the interview process. For the next two to three weeks, the candidates will be involved in the follow-up interview process where they will conduct site visits, learn more about companies, and earn offers. On average, the entire process takes 18 working days to attend the Career Conference, conduct follow-up interviews, earn offers, compare options, and choose the right fit!
Economic Update
On November 1, the BLS reported the US economy added only 12,000 jobs in October, the smallest job growth in nearly 4 years and significantly less than the forecast for a 100k gain. In addition, the previous two months were revised lower by 112k and the separate household survey showed a loss of 368k jobs. Jobs gains were mainly in health care (+52k) and government (+40k) while temporary help services (-49k) and manufacturing (-46k) saw the biggest declines.
The unemployment rate remained steady at 4.1% as the number of people not counted in the labor force rose by 428k and the labor force participation rate fell to 62.6%. Altogether, this was a very weak employment report and confirms the labor market continues to cool rapidly.
While this was certainly a weak labor report, companies with open developmental positions were here to hire. If you want to know more about why companies are always hiring leaders in their companies, I highly recommend listening to E116 and E118 of the PCS to Corporate America Podcast.
So, what were the statistics?
The candidates conducted a total of 410 interviews in two days, with an average of 11.1 interviews per candidate! The pursuit rate for this Career Conference was 71%. That means, on average, candidates were winning 7 out of 10 times on interviews. For my sports fans, their batting average was above 700. In addition, over half of the companies that came back to interview had Cameron-Brooks Alumni conducting the interviews.
The “pursuit rate” is defined as the number of interviews in which the candidate achieved success divided by the total number of interviews. “Achieving success” in an interview at the Career Conference simply means the candidates got over the high “bar” set by our client companies, and the companies expressed interest in moving forward with the candidate.
